One more week to watch Sor Juana’s Amor es más laberinto

Last month’s virtual celebration of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz was a rousing success, drawing hundreds of viewers from all over the US and beyond. In partnership with New York theater companies Red Bull Theater and Repertorio Español, Diversifying the Classics hosted a series of events centered around the famous Mexican playwright, poet, and nun, one of the Hispanic Golden Age’s most accomplished authors. If you missed the roundtable discussions on translating and performing Hispanic classical theater, you can check out the recordings here: https://www.redbulltheater.com/hispanic-golden-age-classics-sor-juana or at Red Bull’s YouTube page: https://www.youtube.com/c/RedBullTheater/videos

The series also featured Zoom readings by Red Bull (in English with Spanish subtitles) and Repertorio (in Spanish with English subtitles). Red Bull performed our newest translation, Love is the Greater Labyrinth, one of only three extant plays by Sor Juana, now in English for the first time. Red Bull’s English reading was available for a limited time only, but you can still watch Repertorio’s lively reading of Amor es más laberinto in its original Spanish until October 27th. Experience Sor Juana’s madcap take on the heroes of Greek myth before it disappears! Watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8rEYpSSJBM&t=3s
