Final Countdown!

Less than two weeks until LA ESCENA, Los Angeles’ first Hispanic classical theater festival, opens at the Greenway Court Theater! From September 21-23, Los Angeles audiences will enjoy classic plays from the Spanish Golden Age presented in inventive new stagings. The festival, organized by the Diversifying the Classics project, will feature six performances over three nights showcasing the versatility and richness of the Hispanic theatrical tradition.

LA ESCENA has recently been profiled in the UCLA Newsroom Arts + Culture section, highlighting the festival as a landmark event in the ongoing mission of the Diversifying the Classics project to “rethink classical theater for Los Angeles audiences.” LA ESCENA continues the Golden Tongues performance series, which features brand-new comedia adaptations from LA playwrights, and expands it to include international performers like Mexican theater group EFE Tres, performing two of their own adaptations this year. Tickets are going fast but seats are still available for three nights of creative and fresh interpretations of Spanish classics. Performances by EFE Tres, Playwrights’ Arena, and UCLA’s LatinX Theater Comunión are only $10 each, with two performances per night (6PM and 8PM on Friday and Saturday, and 5PM and 7PM on Sunday). The Greenway Court Theatre is at 544 N. Fairfax Ave, Los Angeles – free parking next to the theater! Tickets and information are on our website: http://diversifyingtheclassics.humanities.ucla.edu/la-escena/ Hope to see you there!
