The Courage to Right a Woman’s Wrongs Wins Translation Award

We are thrilled to announce that the Association for Hispanic Classical Theater has selected the UCLA Working Group’s The Courage to Right a Woman’s Wrongs as the winner of the Franklin Smith Comedia Translation Prize. The AHCT is dedicated to the study, dissemination, and appreciation of Hispanic Classical Theater in performance, and as such the selection committee especially appreciated “the extraordinary fluency and wit of the translation, the delightful quality of the play, and the contribution to the canon of bringing Ana Caro to light so accessibly.” Our translation of Ana Caro’s Valor, agravio, y mujer has already been performed in several different venues, including a Zoom performance with Red Bull Theater, as a staged reading at the 2022 Bay Area Women’s Theater Festival, and most recently at the Guthrie Theater as Valor adapted and directed by Maija García. We are honored by the recognition of our work and hope that Ana Caro finds her way to many more stages.
