A Noise Within to Host LA Escena 2020

Planning for the next LA Escena Festival is in full swing and we have an exciting development to share We are pleased to announce our partnership with A Noise Within, named “one of the nation’s premier classical repertory companies” by The Huffington Post. The Pasadena-based organization will host LA Escena in Fall 2020 at their beautiful, state-of-the-art campus for an event even bigger and more ambitious than the first.

A Noise Within and Diversifying the Classics share the goal of expanding diversity and inclusion in classic theater through education, performance, and outreach. A Noise Within has been a major force in Southern California for making the classics accessible to all through their rotating repertory company and innovative community engagement.

LA Escena will be part of Noise Now, A Noise Within’s new cultural initiative headed by their Director of Cultural Programming, Jonathan Muñoz-Proulx. Jonathan has been involved with Diversifying the Classics since the very first Golden Tongues in 2013, and directed Madhuri Shekar’s “School For Witches” at the inaugural LA Escena last year. Through Noise Now, A Noise Within is pursuing partnerships with local organizations in order to “illuminate and activate underrepresented populations, communities of color, young people, and all others not equitably represented at the theatre.”

Diversifying the Classics is thrilled to bring the comedia to A Noise Within’s theater and to join with them to continue the LA Escena Festival.
