LA Librería Workshop II: La vida es sueño

On May 17, Diversifying the Classics and noted Spanish-language children’s bookstore LA Librería hosted a theater workshop. Students ages 6 to 12 performed a Spanish-language children’s adaptation of Pedro Calderón de la Barca’s La vida es sueño written by UNAM Professor Gabriela Villanueva and Rachel Kaufman as part of our Mex-Clásicos initiative.

Students participated in various activities including rehearsing lines, decorating the set and costumes, and constructing props, including bird beaks! They also learned the song “Queremos un nuevo sueño,” an original piece composed by DTC’s Galo Lopez. At the end of the workshop, the students impressed an audience of parents with their performance. The workshop allowed students to practice not only their acting skills, but also their Spanish.  We would like to thank our spectacular group of actors, as well as LA Librería for hosting us and making this reprisal of the theater workshop possible.
